Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just purchased, but fantastic so far!! I just purchased to replace an old homelite. I have only cut up a few trees, but it has more than met my expectations so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good price + Good performance = Great Value Great performing saw with good power and modest weight. Perfect for occasional use around the farm, but when needed provides reliable heavy duty performance. Took a little getting used to the starting procedure, but had it mastered after the first use. Overall, very solid saw for the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Stihl chainsaw Very impressed with the performance and power this saw has. It usually take 5-7 pulls to start when cold and starts on 1 pull when hot. Very lightweight and easy to carry. Two Thumbs up!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Robust Clean-Up and Firewood Saw I'm an ex-logger, but all I needed for around the house was a homeowner grade Stihl. We had an ice storm here in MI on a Sunday in early April. A large limb dropped from our box elder tree in the back lot, and got hung up in 2 trees, and a fence. I went to my local dealer, brought home one of these MS250's, and got to work cutting up the massive limb. This saw muscled through the thickest part of the limb (20" or more) with the 18" bar burried, as well as the thinner branches with ease. Keep in mind, this is not a "pro" line saw - and this was a large job for this model to tackle. Probably more than I should have tried putting it through right out of the gate. But it held up! I'm actually amazed. I even kept the stock LP chain on it for this clean up (though I also purchased a 26 RS 68 chain as well). I have also used it to cut up some 4X4 heat-treated oak beams at work, and I cut a full cord (and more) of red oak/silver maple firewood from 6"-14" logs up at our cabin. After all this, I have 0 problems to report. ZERO, folks. I have to suspect user error for all the problems in other reviews pertaining to hard-starting (again, I had no problems starting this saw, cold OR warm). For the price, displacement and power-to-weight ratio, this MS250 is an amazing workhorse. I've been using Stihl saws since my Grandfather taught me how to use his old 028 in the early 90's, and this is why! Best chainsaws on earth, hands down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mid size saw Plenty of power for experienced homeowner. Good value. Made well (as always). Enough saw that lets the saw do the work not the operator!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best saw this is the 2nd MS 250 I have owned, the weight of saw is a lot lighter than the other saw we were considering, but still falls trees with ease. Great saw to have around the ranch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent all around saw I have had this saw for about 2 years. I got "it" (a voucher from the wife and kids) on Father's day, did a ton of research and when my local hardware store had "Stihl Days" with a discount price and an extra chain, I pounced.I have used it about 25-30 times for a total of close to 100 hours since I bought it. Still on the original chain and still cutting VERY well (no ground contact so far - touch wood). Most of my cutting has been windfalls or cutting up the leavings from logging my friend's woods. It exceeds my expectations in everything from limbing, to bucking to felling medium sized hardwoods. It's light and agile enough - with a stock 18" bar - to run a couple tanks of gas through in an afternoon and still have enough energy left to split and stack the big stuff. I have yet to run into anything that I thought I needed stronger saw for, but I'm also patient. If there is a nit to be picked, I have two. The last time I had the saw out for a long day, every time I put the saw horizontal for any length of time, it would quit. It did that 4 or 5 times until I gave up and had my friend do all the horizontal cuts and I did the rest. After a VERY brief Google search I discovered that the fuel pickup can get hung up within the tank and sure enough I opened the fuel cap with the saw on it's side and the pickup was right there by the filler opening well above the fuel line. I just pushed the pickup off the casting and haven't had a problem since.Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase. The MS250 has been around in nearly the exact form for a long time so there is plenty of information on the internet. For a higher end home owner saw, it certainly has my vote.I didn't check "easy to maintain" because at this point, I haven't had to maintain anything. I check the chain, the bar, add gas and bar oil and off we go!
